Connect an IDE

Connect editors and agents to Elide through LSP or MCP

Elide exposes two stable editor-facing protocols: Language Server Protocol (LSP) for Java code intelligence and Model Context Protocol (MCP) for agents.

Java over LSP

Configure the editor’s Java language client to start this command over stdio:

elide lsp

Launch it from the project root so Elide can resolve project sources and dependencies. See Connect over LSP.

IntelliJ IDEA

JetBrains IDEs use a dedicated plugin instead of LSP: it imports the project from elide.pkl, generates run configurations, and attaches the IDE’s Java debugger to elide run --debugger. See IntelliJ IDEA Plugin.

Visual Studio Code

VS Code uses a dedicated extension: it syncs the project from elide.pkl into the JetBrains Kotlin LSP’s workspace format, contributes Elide build/run/test tasks, and attaches a JVM debugger to elide run --debugger. See VS Code Extension.

Agents over MCP

Most desktop agents use the default stdio transport:

elide mcp

HTTP mode is also available:

elide mcp --mode http --host localhost --port 8125
